Worry or Pray?

Next Chapter: Worship

My mother, Jean Lynn Chilson Brader and MaxProverbs 3:5–6 was my mother’s favorite verse and has become our family motto — it is read at family weddings, funerals and, sometimes, daily.

My Mother was fond of saying, "If you are going to worry, don't bother to pray. But if you are going to pray, then you don't need to worry." It could be very upsetting to hear her say that — usually in the middle of a family crisis. But I knew in my heart that she was right and later I would think about what she said.

I have often wondered if living life is like playing the game of Life — you know, the kid’s board game. If so, then I know I am going to lose — and lose big time. But I keep reminding myself, that life is not a game and that God is watching over me and directing every turn and twist in my real day–to–day life. He said I could trust Him and so I do trust Him — as much as I can. Some days that’s a lot, some days very little.

After all, trusting Him is really the only chance I have. Isn’t it?

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT)

"So don't worry about having enough food or drink or clothing. Why be like the pagans who are so deeply concerned about these things? Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs, and he will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern." (Matthew 6:31-33 NLT)

Lord, I do believe, please take away my worry and my unbelief. Help me to fully trust You—for everything, every day. Amen.

Questions for consideration...
  1. In difficult times do I worry or pray or both?
  2. Why do I do that?
  3. If I play by the rules and do everything right. in the end will everything be okay?
